Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said their party will nominate a most respectable person for presidency.
"We're yet to choose our candidate for the president polls. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the nomination board will select the candidate who is most respectable to the country's people," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, was talking to reporters after inaugurating the work on the Singair-Manikganj-Hemayetpur regional highway at Hemayetpur, Dhaka in the morning.
Local MP Md Enamur Rahman, former acting chairman of Savar upazila parishad Fakhrul Alam and senior officials concerned were present.
The election to choose the next president of Bangladesh will be held on February 18, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced on Thursday.
According to the schedule, nominations to succeed President Md Abdul Hamid must be submitted by February 5 before the papers are scrutinized on February 7. The final date for withdrawing a candidacy is February 10.
Hamid will complete his five-year term on April 23. The 21st president will be elected by the members of parliament on February 18, during the current 19th session of the House.
