Awami League Publicity and Publications Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has stated that a certain quarter is planning to create unrest in the country, centring the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, scheduled to be delivered on February 8.
He made claims of the conspiracy at a human chain held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.
The demonstration, organized by the Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad, was held to protest the attempts by some to create unrest in Bangladesh.
Hasan called upon the Awami League leaders and activists, and people of all social strata to remain vigilant against any attempt to sow chaos centring the verdict of the graft case, in which BNP chief Khaleda Zia and five others have been accused.
“A certain quarter is trying to create unrest across the country, just when Bangladesh is moving forward in many sectors, including law and order, and development. In the name of demonstration, they are trying to destabilize educational institutions,” he said at the program.
He added: “Some media organizations are not highlighting those who laid siege to the Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence and vandalized several gates. They are only highlighting the events that happened after the siege. We condone neither of the incidents.”
Hasan further said: “A certain quarter is always trying to create controversy around the Chhatra League.”
Dhaka South Awami League General Secretary Shah-e-Alam Murad, Advocate Balaram Podder, MA Karim and President of Bangabandhu Research Council Lion Gani Miah Babul were present at the program among others. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
