AL to declare its DNCC mayoral candidate Tuesday night

The ruling Awami League will announce the name of their candidate for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation by-polls on Tuesday evening following a meeting of party’s Local Government Nomination Board. The nomination seekers will have to sit for an interview at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s residence Ganabhaban on Tuesday evening and the nomination board will have a meeting following the interview in order to finalize the name. A press release signed by Awami League Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap confirmed the matter. A total of 16 candidates have collected Awami League’s nomination from January 13 to 16 for the upcoming mayoral election slated to be held on February 26.

Among the nomination seekers, Atiqul Islam and HBM Iqbal are the two most potential candidates, according to party’s policymakers. The other nomination seekers are – Rasel Ashequi, Adam Tamizi Haque, Helal Uddin Helal, Jobair Alam, Mohammad Shah Alam, Farhad Hossain, Abaid Monsur, Yead Ali Fakir, Shamim Hasan, Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, Abul Bashar, Osman Gani, Zaman Bhuiyan and Asma Zerin Jhumu. The mayoral post fell vacant on November 30 last year after the death of Annisul Huq, the first ever mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation.The story was first published on banglatribune.com
