20-party to declare DNCC mayoral candidate on Jan 13

Update : 09 Jan 2018, 07:15 PM
The BNP-led 20-party alliance on January 13 will declare the name of their mayoral candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls. The announcement would be made after a meeting of the BNP’s National Standing Committee that day, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday. The BNP secretary general also demanded deployment of army seven days ahead of the vote. Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami's declaration of a DNCC mayoral candidate, Fakhrul said: “It won’t be a problem. We will come up with a solution through discussion. The 20-party alliance will have a single candidate.” He also said that this election would determine whether the current Election Commission is capable of holding upcoming parliamentary election in a free and fair manner. The DNCC by-polls is slated for February 26. The mayoral post had fallen vacant after the death of mayor Annisul Huq on November 30.The article was first published on Bangla Tribune
