The attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's motorcade in Feni last month was planned by Feni Awami League leader Nizam Uddin Hazari, claimed another Awami League leader in the district. Reading a written statement at a press conference on Tuesday, Azharul Haque, executive member of the ruling parties Feni district unit, said: "The attack on Khaleda's motorcade was premeditated, and Nizam was the mastermind behind it. There are several allegations of murder, corruption, money laundering and many other crimes against Nizam, general secretary of the ruling party's Feni unit and an elected member of parliament from the district, Azhar further said. The press conference was held at National Press Club in Dhaka. He also claimed that Nizam collected tolls and commission from different terminals and government offices in Feni, including the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Department of Public Works, Zila Parishad and municipalities. Asked whether he had the party's permission to organize the press conference against a lawmaker and district Awami League leader, Azhar said he had discussed the issue with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader when the latter visited the construction work of a flyover in Feni on Monday. Furthermore, Awami League Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Chittagong Awami League leader Enamul Haque Shamim were also informed of this issue, Azhar said.
