The BNP has reacted sharply to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment on electing Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman to its top posts.
Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condemned the comment, saying it violated political norms.
At a March 7 rally, Hasina quipped at the BNP election, dubbing it a drama. “The party has re-elected two accused in the top posts,” she said.
Fakhrul said: “Awami League leaders’ comments lack political etiquette.” He defended the election, saying, “Cases have been filed against all the democratic movement leaders.”
He was speaking at a Mohila Dal procession marking the International Women’s Day in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters.
