MA Mannan, the suspended mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation, has been released on bail.
He went home from Birdem hospital around Wednesday noon after securing bail from the High Court in 22 cases, his counsel Shahiduzzaman said.
Mannan, suffering from various ailments, was shifted to Birdem from Kashimpur Jail on May 21 last year.
Several BNP leaders greeted him at the hospital gate after his release.
Mannan, an adviser to the BNP chairperson, was arrested in Dhaka on February 11 last year for his suspected involvement in an arson attack on a passenger bus in Gazipur on February 4.
Panel mayor Asadur Rahman Kiron was made the acting mayor upon a court directive the next month.
Police have pressed charges against Mannan in court in two cases. The government suspended him in August.
