BNP's chairperson, vice-chairman polls March 19

The BNP has announced schedule for elections to two top positions being held by the party chief Khaleda Zia and her exiled son party's senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

The election to the positions will be held on March 19 as the BNP set it for holding its national council in Dhaka.

Addressing a press briefing at party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Monday, party's standing committee member Jamir Uddin Sircar told journalists that the nomination papers for the positions would be distributed from March 2.

“The nomination papers will be available at the party’s central Nayapaltan headquarters,” he said adding that nominations paper would have to be submitted by March 4 and scrutiny of the nomination papers will be taken place on March 5 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is March 6.

He also said party's standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was made the returning officer for the election.

Sircar said that the candidates himself or herself can collect the nomination or they can send their representatives having permission in writing to collect the nomination papers for those positions.

The minimum age of the aspirants will be at least 30. They must be members of the party who regularly pay the monthly fees to aid it.
