The Awami League-backed panel has overwhelmingly won the election to the Dhaka Bar Association.
The Awami League-backed white panel won 21 of the 27 posts, while the rest went to the BNP-Jamaat-backed blue panel.
Md Shahalam Khan, chief election commissioner for the Dhaka Bar Association, announced the results around 6:30am Saturday.
The top posts including those of the president and the general secretary were won by the white panel; while among the 12 posts of office bearers, the blue panel won only 3 posts.
White panel’s Md Saidur Rahman Manik has been elected the president of the association while Md Ayubur Rahman of the same panel was elected the general secretary.
Of the 15 posts of executive members, the pro-Awami League lawyers won 12 while the BNP-Jamaat--backed lawyers won the rest.
The voting was held throughout Wednesday and Thursday. The total number of voters was 15,050.
White panel’s Abu Bakar Farhad has been elected the vice-president, Abdus Salam Khan the senior assistant general secretary, Md Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan the assistant general secretary, Ali Ahmed the library secretary, Lucky Akhter Flora the cultural secretary and Abdul Hey Mamun was elected the office secretary.
Blue panel’s Afroza Begum Shelly and Abu Bakar Siddique have been elected senior vice-president and treasurer respectively.
