Former social welfare minister Enamul Haque Mostafa Shahid died at Square Hospital in the capital yesterday while undergoing treatment. He was 82.
He will be buried at his family burial ground in Shayestaganj of Habiganj district today, said an Awami League press release.
Enamul Haque, a five-time lawmaker of Jatiya Sangsad and Ekushey Award laureate, was suffering from many old-age ailments including kidney related problems.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock at the death of the former minister.
In a condolence message Sheikh Hasina recalled Enamul’s contribution to politics as well as his role during the Liberation War. She said the death of the leader was a great loss for the party and the nation.
