The government is harassing media and journalists by filing cases and creating fears, threats to hide their misdeeds, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has alleged.
The BNP chairperson said: “The incumbent government is now practicing anti-democratic manures by standing against freedom of speech. The ruling party men have shut down the publications of many newspapers including Amar Desh and some private television channels.”
Khaleda Zia made the statement at a press release signed by her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan on Tuesday.
Khaleda Zia also warned the government saying: “I am warning all the quarters concerned on the consequences of journalist’s repression and gagging the differences of opinion.”
The former premier expressed her concern about the shown-arrest of Mahmudur Rahman and demanded his release immediately.
“After securing bail from the highest court and then shown arrest on another case seems to me as an audacity and tantamount to contempt of court,” he said referring Mahmudur Rahman’s arrest and remand.
She demanded immediate release Mahmudur Rahman, Shawkat Mahmud and all other journalists and stop repression over media.”
