3 hurt in anti-Latif human chain clash

At least three persons have sustained injuries during a factional clash of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Madarbari area under Sadarghat police station in the city.

The clash ensued soon after a human chain programme formed demanding the punishment of Awami League lawmaker MA Latif for allegedly distorting the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A group of people under the banner of ‘Jagroto Chhatra O Jubo Janata’ organised the human chain in Madarbari area of the city on Monday.

One of the injured identified as Md Rashed, a BCL leader of Government City College was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital with stab injuries. The rest two injured persons were not identified immediately.

Police said two factions of the organisers locked into the clash while the organisers claimed that they were attacked.

Abdur Rahim Jillu, member secretary of ‘Jagroto Chhatra O Jubo Janata’ told the Dhaka Tribune that two youths started stabbing the participants indiscriminately when they went to a nearby restaurant at around 1:30pm.

“We are attacked following the human chain programme. However, we managed to catch the attackers and later handed them over to the police,” added Jillu.

The attackers were caught and handed over to the police. Sharp weapons were found after searching the bags of the attackers.

The arrested youths were identified as Rhishi, student of Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College, Chittagong and Ovi, student of Kaisar Nilufar College, Chittagong.
