Local administration has imposed section 144 in Haripur upazila Awami League office and its adjacent area for 17 hours, from 6 am until 11pm, on Saturday fearing clash between two local affiliate bodies of the ruling party.
Acting UNO Abdul Mannan impose the ban on any programmes apprehending clashes as both Jubo League and Krishak League called rallies there at the same time.
OC (Investigation) Syeedur Rahman said the ban was imposed in order to avoid any untoward situation.
Krishak League district unit general secretary said a 71-member new committee of the upazila unit of the organization was formed November 9 last.
Tension has been intensifying between two groups divided over the formation of the new committee are now in a face-to-face.
On January 13, the deprived faction, backed by local Jubo League filed a case. One the following day another case was filed against them.
