Two groups of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling party Awami League, clashed while marking its founding anniversary in Chittagong city’s Shaheed Minar area, leaving six people injured.
Witnesses said to mark the 68th anniversary of the BCL, the leaders and activists thronged Central Shaheed Minar premises around 11am. City unit Awami League (AL)’s president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was present at the programme as the chief guest.
During the programme, BCL men of Government City College and Omar Gani MES College became engaged in an altercation over a trivial matter. Later, they attacked each other with sticks and plastic chairs, leaving six people injured.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotowali police station Md Jasim Uddin said they had brought the situation under control after dispersing the clashing groups.
