Internal feud hits Khagrachhari AL

Update : 04 Jan 2016, 07:19 PM

Internal feud has taken a serious turn among the activists of the ruling party Awami League and its front organisation over mayoral candidacy in the municipality election.

Although the polls passed almost a week ago, leaders and activists of the Awami League are still divided into two groups and their rivalry came under the spotlight again over the celebration of the 68th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, students front organisation of the Awami League.

Yesterday, two groups of Awami League one led by district unit Awami League President Kujendra Lal Tripura and another led by district unit Awami League General Secretary Md Jahedul Alam marked the day separately.

General Secretary of the BCL Khagrachhari district unit Jahir Uddin Firoz alleged that running President and local lawmaker Kujendra Lal Tripura  were trying to establish supremacy ignoring party leader’s opinion. Party’s activities were halted as the district party office was closed on December 31, 2015 by the district Awami League president after last municipality election where his nominated candidate Md Shane Alam lost in the election.

On the other hand, district unit Jubo League President Jatan Kumar Tripura, Chhatra League President Teko Chakma, Sechwasebok League Secretary Mofizur Rahman said a faction of Awami League led by general secretary Md Jahedul Alam divided the party into two groups during last municipality election. They were working against party nominated candidate that resulting his defeat.

We will not accept those, who are working for independent candidate Md Rafiqul Alam.  It is mentionable that Rafiqul Alam was elected as Khagrachhari Municipality Mayor after bagging 9,414 votes during last municipality election.

Kujendra Lal Tripura said everything would be alright within shortest possible time, Kujendra Lal Tripura said, adding journalist to wait couple of days.
