According to the UNO office sources, local ruling party leaders had been running gambling at a village fair in Balrampur union parishad for long.
Following complaints of local people, a team from UNO office led by executive magistrate went to fair spot and stopped gambling on Monday.
Following the incident, a group of Awami League leaders and activists led by Parvez Hossain Sarkar, a local Awami League leader and ex-chairman of Titas upazila parishad, went to the UNO office yesterday morning and confined staff of the office for three hours. But nobody was injured in the incident.
However, upzila nirbahi officer Mokima Begum was not present at her office.
On receiving information, law enforcers rushed to the spot and rescued the officials breaking doors around 1:30pm.
UNO Mokima Begum said: “Ruling party men locked my office because we stopped gambling at Balrampur.”
However, Parvez Hossain Sarkar denied the allegation.
