Shamsher, 11 others indicted for violence

A Dhaka court has framed charges against former BNP vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and 11 others men of BNP-led alliance in a case filed on charges of vandalising, obstructing police from discharging their duties.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfur Rahman Shishir Wednesday framed the charges against the 12 accused rejecting their discharge petitions filed by defense counsel Md Sanaullah Miah.

The court also fixed March 1 for starting the trial by recording depositions of prosecution witnesses in the case.

Mobin among 10 accused appeared before the court, pleaded not guilty and they also demanded justice after the court read out the charges to them.

After framing the charges, the court also issued warrant for the arrest of the two accused as they did not appear before the court.

The other accused are Mostafa Ahamed, Md Yeahyea, Babul Sarder, Sultan Mahmud, Matiur Rahman Akand, Md Musa Kalimullah, Abdul Alim Naki, Abul Kalam Azad, Khokon, Kalam and Tofail Ahamed.

According to the case, on June 27, 2010, miscreants vandalised vehicles and obstructed police from discharging their duties at Wireless Gate in Mohakhali in the city during a hartal.

Following the incident, sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station Md Ali filed a case with the police station the same day.

After probe, SI Giasuddin, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against the 12 accused on April 30, last year.
