CU student beaten by BCL over alleged Shibir link

A first year student of Institute of Education and Research Training (IERT) of Chittagong University has been beaten severely by a section of Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL) men at Shahjalal dormitory over his alleged involvement with Islami Chhattra Shibir on Sunday evening.

The student was identified as Md Shahed Hossen, student of 2014-2015 academic session of IERT, said campus sources.

He was whisked off at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj Barua of CMCH police outpost.

Campus sources said a group of BCL men belong to CU shuttle train compartment based BCL fraction “Sixty Nine” Group led by CU BCL unit president Alamgir Tipu picked the student up at BCL dominated Shahjalal dormitory at around 3pm and beat indiscriminately for two and half hours confining in a room of the dormitory.

Followers of Sixty Nine leader Abul Mansur allegedly beat the student, said BCL sources.

Later, the student was rescued in critical condition at around 6:30pm and sent to CMCH, said police sources.

Claiming the student as Shibir secretary of IERT, CU BCL president Alamgir Tipu told the Dhaka Tribune that BCL men just resist the Shibir agents who pass internal information of BCL.
