At least 10 people were injured in a clash between Jubo Dal and Jubo League members in Narayanganj’s Rupganj yesterday.
Five of the injured, including Salahuddin, Rakib and Masum, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and were said to be in a critical condition. Ten motorcycles and two cars were vandalised during the clash. Additional police were deployed to prevent further unrest.
The clash broke out when local Jubo Dal members were preparing to organise a march after a discussion marking the organisation’s founding anniversary was held at the house of Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, finance secretary of Jubo Dal’s central committee.
Chhatra League and Jubo League members obstructed the Jubo Dal activists, leading to an altercation, and later the clash.
Rupganj upazila Jubo Dal President Golam Faruk Khokon alleged that the attackers attacked in the presence of police. Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman Mizan, second officer of Rupganj police station, said police arrived on the scene soon after the clash had erupted and brought the situation under control.
