Quader: Foreign staff in Padma Bridge project to get extra security

Update : 10 Oct 2015, 07:48 PM

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said extra security would be provided to foreign staff working in the Padma Bridge project.

He made the announcement this afternoon after holding a meeting with the contractor firm, consultant firm and members of law enforcing agencies in the project area in Naodoba under Jajira upazila in Shariatpur.

“I have come here to know about the wellbeing of the foreigners working in the project. I held meeting with the concerned officials to know whether they have any anxiety. No foreigners told me anything about any fear,” Quader said.

“This is the biggest project in Bangladesh and the Prime Minister herself keeps track about it. She ordered to ensure foolproof security for the foreigners working in the project. We have taken some steps to ensure security of the foreigners. Army, police and intelligence agencies are working to ensure their security,” he added.

Project director Shafikul Islam, executive engineer Mohammad Abdul Quader, representative of consulting firm Express Way Bruse Hunter, contractor firm Sinohydro representative Choi and contractor firm Abdul Monem Limited’s director Abidur Rahman were present at the meeting, among others.

Around 11 hundred officials and staff including citizens of Canada, Korea, the United Kingdom and China are working in the Padma Bridge project.
