BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been granted bail in a defamation case filed for making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yunus Khan granted the bail after Fakhrul surrendered before the court on Tuesday morning.
Fakhrul's counsel Md Sanaullah Mia filed a bail petition. Then, the court granted the bail upon a bond of Tk10,000.
On September 1, SM Nur-e-Alam Siddique, vice-president of Awami Matsyajibi League, lodged the case with against Fakhrul for calling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina “a killer” and Awami League “a party of killers.”
Mirza Fakhrul got released on bail from detention in jail on July 14, after six months of his arrest.
He was arrested on January 6 immediately after he had stepped out of the National Press Club. Fakhrul had been at the Press Club since he attended a programme organised by a pro-BNP professionals’ organisation on January 5.
