Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday told parliament that a journalist of the private television Channel i Zillur Rahman knows the whereabouts of Bangbanbdhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s killer Khandaker Rashid.
“Zillur Rahman, who runs Tritiyo Matra on Channel i took an interview of Colonel Rashid. It means, he knows where killer Rashid stays,” the prime minister said.
“Rashid was in Libya and now he is in Pakistan. Dalim is also in Pakistan. We are not getting any assistance from Pakistani government for their whereabouts,” she told the parliament responding to a query.
The two killers live in Pakistan but the country has not acknowledged it, the premier said.
Of the killers, two lived in America, she continued, one in Canada, one went to Pakistan from Libya and “we could not find the two”.
The Awami League president said lawyers were appointed to bring back the killers of Bangabandhu.
Expressing her surprise, Hasina told parliament: “I do not know why America and Canada, being civilized countries, sheltered the killers.”
On the red alert notice of Interpol to bring back Bangabndhu killers, Hasina said: “Our Foreign Ministry and Home Ministry are trying. Whatever the reason is, we are not getting support from those countries.”
Responding to another query, the premier said: “Those who were in power since 1975 to 96 tried to eradicate Bangabandhu. That time there was only one television channel –BTV. Some newspapers wrote with courage but faced government’s wrath.”
About the 40th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Majibur Rahman, the premier said there were many discussions this year.
Those who criticized, will criticize. “We want everyone should tell the truth. We do not want any exaggeration. The new generation should know the real history.”
Of the 12 convicts, Syed Faruk Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bazlul Huda and AKM Mohiuddin were hanged in 2010.
Another convict, Abdul Aziz Pasha, died in Zimbabwe.
