Order on acceptance of charges against Khaleda Nov 2

A Dhaka court has fixed November 2 for passing an order whether it will accept two charge sheets submitted against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others in two cases filed over petrol bomb attack.

The cases were filed under the Special Powers Act with Jatrabari police station in connection with the bomb attack on a bus at Jatrabari in the capital on January 23 that left a person dead and 27 others injured.

Monday was scheduled for passing order whether the BNP chief and others will be charged in the cases. But Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan set the fresh date to pass the order.

On May 6, DB Sub-Inspector Bashir Ahmed, the investigation officer of the cases, submitted the charge sheets to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

Other accused include BNP leaders MK Anwar, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Azizul Bari Helal, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, former BNP lawmaker Salauddin Ahmed, Khaleda’s advisers Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Shawkat Mahmud, her special assistant Shimul Biswas and press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan.

According to the case documents, at least 28 people suffered burns as two petrol bombs were thrown by suspected blockaders on a bus at Jatrabari. Of the injured, one Nur Alam, 60, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 1.

On the following day of the incident, SI Nuruzzaman filed two cases with Jatrabari police station against 68 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists mentioning Khaleda’s name as an abettor in the cases.
