A mob set the house of a BNP leader on fire and also vandalised some shops at Tebaria Haat area of Natore Sadar upazila yesterday.
Natore SP Shyamol Kumar Mukherjee said the clash broke out centring a meeting held to mark Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s anniversary of death in Station Bazar area. Local lawmaker Shafiqul Islam Shimul was the chief guest at the meeting.
“A group of Jubo League members of Tebaria union were on their way to the meeting while local BNP members led by Abul Bepari attacked them with firearms at Tebaria Haat area. Jubo League members Rajib Hossain and Nazmul Hasan were shot during the clash.”
Angry Jubo League members later set alight Abul Bepari’s house and vandalised some stores in the area.
