Prime Minister and also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has joined the Milad Mahfil of Ivy Rahman, wife of late President Zillur Rahman and AL former women affairs secretary.
The programme was held in Ivy’s Gulshan residence yesterday after Asr prayers on the occasion of her 11th death anniversary, reports BSS.
Earlier in the morning, the AL and its associate bodies placed wreaths at Ivy’s grave in Banani graveyard marking the day.
Besides, relatives, friends and well-wishers of the deceased as well as some ministers, parliament members, AL leaders and directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board joined the Milad and Doa Mahfil.
The team included Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information AKM Rahmatullah, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil among others.
A special Munajat was offered there seeking eternal peace for Ivy and Zillur Rahman as well as other victims of the August 21 grenade attack.
On this day in 2004, Ivy Rahman succumbed to splinter injuries she suffered in a grisly grenade attack on a peaceful Awami League rally on city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
