The mayors of Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations have urged young people to work for the nation’s development, following the principles of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Terming Bangabandhu as the architect of both the independence of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi nation itself, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq said Bangabandhu had dreamt of a peaceful and good livelihood for his countrymen, but not for his own interest.
The Dhaka North mayor made these statements at a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Projonmo League at Jatiyo Shilpakala Academy in the capital yesterday.
“Bangabandhu gave us the flag of an independent Bangladesh. The new generation should always work for the nation’s development, following the ideals of Bangabandhu,” the DNCC Mayor said.
He added that though criminals had killed Bangabandhu, including most of his family members, they had been unable to foil his dream of a Sonar Bangla.
Meanwhile, in another programme, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon also urged his countrymen, and mostly young people, to live up to Bangabandhu’s ideals.
The DSCC mayor advocated for this at a blood donation organised on the Eden Mohila College campus in the capital yesterday. The programme was organised to commemorate Bangabandhu’s 40th death anniversary, and was chaired by the college principal Hosne Ara.
Khokon has also sought the aid of Dhaka residents to build a liveable capital city.
