Update : 19 Aug 2015, 08:05 PM

The High Court yesterday ordered Kashimpur Jail authorities to admit BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam passed the order based on a petition submitted by the BNP leader seeking a ruling as he was suffeing from diabetes and high blood pressure.

The court passed the ruling asking the jail authorities as to why steps should not be taken to provide better medical treatment to Rizvi.

The Home Ministry, health secretary, Dhaka deputy commissioner and senior jail superintendent were made respondents to the rule, said Rizvi’s lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon.

The court gave the respondents four weeks to reply the court order.

The BNP leader was arrested on January 31 when BNP-led alliance was enforcing non-stop blockade and shutdown across the country to topple the government.

He was shown arrested in 19 cases. He was granted bail in 17 of them from the High Court while two are still pending with the Appellate Division.
