BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said that the next election should be held under a neutral government, not the incumbent government.
“In the last programme, I said we want election and want to participate in the election. That election should be held under a neutral government. It is clear. But some newspapers has misinterpreted it. Our position did not change. We said clearly that people will not get the chance to cast votes under [Sheikh] Hasina. So election should be held under a neutral government and BNP will participate in that election,” she said.
Addressing a meeting with a delegation of lawyers from Rajshahi district at her Gulshan office last night, the former prime minister also said that her party would introduce a new breed of politics after going to office.
“We want to bring change in politics. We have to bury the politics of revenge and vengeance. We want do politics for the development and welfare of the people. So, if we are voted to power, we will introduce such kind of politics in the future.”
Slamming the Election Commission for registering minors in the voter list, the BNP chief reiterated her demand for the EC’s resignation. She also demanded a proper updating of the voter list.
Regarding the reorganising process of the party, Khaleda said: “The party will have to be strengthened. No committees will be announced from Dhaka. You will be given the charge to form committees. Dedicated, honest and competent people will have to be elected. The new generation should have to be in the leadership and aged people will be made council members.”
