A female leader of Awami League has received severe injuries after unknown miscreants attacked her in the district's Singra upazila.
The victim, Anjuman Ara, former president of the upazila unit Mahila Awami League and also a former vice-chairman of the upazila, has been admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
Quoting the locals, police said Anjuman came under attack in Chandpur Moholla area around 9pm Sunday while she was returning home.
Hearing her scram, locals rushed in and rescued her in an unconscious state. However, the attackers fled the scene immediately.
When contacted, the victim told the Dhaka Tribune: “The miscreants were trying to strangle me.”
Nasir Uddin Modnol, OC of Singra police station said: “I have visited the victim at hospital and talked to her over the matter. But, no official complaint has been filed yet.”
