Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader has said that billboards containing pictures of political leaders are not only eyesore but also harmful for the country’s image.
They are illegally erected at different points and appear like “factories of producing leaders” as they contain only pictures of leaders, their followers and extortionists.
These billboards are a new kind of nuisance in the country, said the minister to journalists in Cherag Ali Market area in Tongi, Gazipur while visiting the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway yesterday.
“These billboards are erected only to show the faces of political leaders, their subordinates, lower level followers and extortionists. The extortionists put up the billboards to please the leaders and show themselves. From September we will conduct a drive to remove these billboards,” he said.
Bangladesh has achieved a lot in the recent years but these billboards are shelving those achievements down under cover, added the minister.
He said the Dhaka-Gazipur road was now in a better condition than previous times and overall condition of roads and highways of the country was better than before. The four lane projects at Joydebpur-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Chittagong highways were almost complete.
