Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said that a tribunal will be formed after Eid for quick disposal of cases against Khaleda Zia filed for instigating violence during her party's movement earlier this year.
“The prime minister [Sheikh Hasina] has clearly stated that no one is above law. Khaleda Zia has led the killings of over 150 people in the recent dreadful firebomb attacks that continued for more than 90 days,” the minister told reporters after inaugurating a school building in his home district Kushtia on Saturday.
“Killing people in firebomb attacks is similar to the 1971 mass killings. Khaleda Zia is accused of committing such crimes,” he said.
Inu, also the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, said that investigation against the BNP chairperson in those cases is under way and chargesheets have already been placed in some cases.
“If Khaleda Zia can prove her innocence, she will do politics. Or else, she will have to go to jail quitting politics,” he observed.
On Wednesday, PM Sheikh Hasina said in parliament that a tribunal would be formed to try the BNP chief and her associates for instigating petrol bombing.
