Khaleda asks leaders to stand by the repressed activists

Update : 06 Jul 2015, 07:47 PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has asked her colleagues to go to their respective constituencies and strengthen organisational activities by standing beside the repressed leaders and activists of the party.

She gave this instruction in a meeting with the senior leaders of the party at her Gulshan office late last night.

The meeting also decided to strengthen the reorganisation process of the party after the Eid vacation.

“The latest political situation was analysed in the meeting. Madam [Khaleda] asked the leaders to stand beside those who have been facing repression,” Nazrul Islam Khan, a standing committee member of the party, told reporters.

Sources said that the meeting also discussed sending a delegation to the chief justice to clarify the party’s stance regarding the judiciary. Khaleda had recently been cautioned by a court after she had said that the judiciary had become biased.

This was Khaleda’s first formal meeting with her senior colleagues after she had come back home from a nearly four-month stay in the Gulshan office from January to April.

The former prime minister is expected to leave Dhaka on Wednesday night for Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Umrah. She is also scheduled to meet her son Tarique Rahman there.
