“Please do not undermine the efforts of the true BNP activists, who were with us in our bad times, by allowing certain opportunists into the party,” he said during a party meeting on Wednesday at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
The senior BNP leader also added: “If Khaleda Zia accepts the opportunist groups into the party and entrusts them with important positions, it will be a major wrong decision for the party.”
Gayeshwar stated that there are many BNP leaders who share close communication with the current government party members for their personal benefits.
Terming them “government agents” he said: “If these agents are given priority positions in the party, this will be demoralising for the true activists of BNP.”
“We have no evidence, but have heard many such allegations,” he further claimed.
Gayeshwar also said BNP should settle this issue before the election and not take part in an election with such conspiracy within the party.
“If we partake in the election with such opportunists, the party will suffer further.”
“All political parties have some opportunists among them who are there to mostly serve their own interests. They also often offer advice and suggestions to the party that does more harm than good.
BNP should be aware of such self-seekers and unite against them to benefit the party,” he concluded.
