Falu barred at airport from leaving Bangladesh

Update : 27 Jun 2015, 05:27 PM

BNP chairperson’s adviser Mohammad Mosaddek Ali Falu was sent back from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by immigration authorities on Saturday evening when he was trying to go to Saudi Arabia to perform the umrah.

Mosaddek Ali was scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia on an Emirates Airlines flight at 7.10pm. He went to the airport before schedule but immigration authorities barred him from leaving Bangladesh and sent him back to home, said airport sources.

Preferring anonymity, a senior official of Special Branch of police (immigration) said there are several intelligence authorities working in the airport. A prominent person or politician needs to have clearance from all the agencies before leaving Bangladesh.

Mosaddek Ali did not have all the clearances, so immigration authorities barred him, said the official.

The BNP leader was freed on bail around midnight on Wednesday after the police escort was withdrawn from the Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka where he was undergoing treatment for several weeks.

Earlier, plain-clothes police picked up Mosaddak soon after he had come out of the BNP chairperson’s office on February 1 during the countrywide non-stop blockade. Mosaddak was implicated in three cases after his arrest.

On June 18, the High Court granted bail to Mosaddek in a case of the arson attack on a bus of Ababil Paribahan near Badda Link Road area and the recovery of crude bombs from the spot on February 1.
