BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir wants to meet President Abdul Hamid to submit Khaleda Zia's proposal on Election Commission (EC) reformation.
A four-member BNP delegation handed over a letter, signed by Mirza Fakhrul Islam, to a Bangabhaban staff after 4pm Wednesday regarding the issue.
The BNP leader said they hope the president will take the initiative to discuss reformation of the EC with all political parties, and keep their proposal in consideration.
“We have already asked his office for time. But we are yet to receive a reply,” said Fakhrul.
“The president will have the leading responsibility in reforming the Election Commission so we want to meet him and submit our party’s proposal,” Fakhrul said at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Fakhrul said the BNP thinks there is “no alternative way” to solve the political crisis other then through discussions.
“The president is the guardian of the country, and keeping this in mind we hope he will take initiatives to start dialogues with the political parties,” Fakhrul said.
