From an apprehension that counterfeit notes may flood the market just like what happens every year, independent MP Haji Mohammad Selim yesterday said in parliament that a special tribunal should be formed to stop this crime.
“None has ever been tried in the five thousand cases relating to counterfeit notes. Criminals arrested for this crime comes out of jail and start counterfeiting currency bills again,” Selim said.
A few days ago, several people were arrested with a large amount of fake notes in Dhaka’s Kafrul area, but unfortunately they were released a few days later, he said.
“Attorneys told the court: ‘Give whatever punishment they deserve but please grant them bail.’ And the court obliged,” Selim said.
He also requested Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury to issue a ruling in this regard.
