Update : 12 May 2015, 08:21 AM

Missing BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, who has been found alive at a hospital in Meghalaya of India, said that he had been kidnapped from Uttara in the capital.

"Yes, I am Salahuddin Ahmed, a BNP leader. I was kidnapped by a group of unidentified people from Uttara and I don't know how I landed in this place (Shillong)," Ahmed told IANS before he was admitted to the under-trial prisoner cell at the Shillong Civil Hospital.

Meghalaya Police officials said Ahmed was detained by city patrol police on Monday morning from Golf Link area after local people alerted police about some "suspicious movement" by a man in and around the area.

Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed informed the Dhaka Tribune, “Salahuddin called me from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Shillong of Meghalaya after 10am on Tuesday.”

In a press briefing at her Gulshan residence in the afternoon, Hasina  said that she also talked to the authorities of the hospital.

Hasina said she got a call from the hospital authorities saying that her husband Salahuddin wants to talk to her.

“Later, they connected me to him and I talked with my husband,” she added.

During conversation, he (Salahuddin) said: “I am alive for the blessings from all of you.”

“I am well. The condition of my health is also good. I will return home soon”

Salahuddin’s wife sought government’s help to get a visa for going to India to meet her husband.

Meghalaya Police officials said Ahmed was detained by city patrol police on Monday morning from Golf Link area after local people alerted police about some "suspicious movement" by a man in and around that area.

"Initially, we picked him up for interrogation at the Pasteur beat house. On interrogation, Ahmed claimed he was a Bangladeshi national and a former minister. However, he failed to produce any paper to prove his identity and citizenship," East Khasi Hills district police chief Mariahom Kharkrang said.
