DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon urged businesspeople to invest in public-private partnership ventures to develop Dhaka’s infrastructure and make the capital a liveable city.
“There are a lot of opportunities in PPP investment and your investment will be secure,” said the newly-elected mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) at a reception accorded by the trade bodies the BGMEA, BKMEA and the BTMA.
Even though Dhaka is a problem-prone city, the root of its troubles were known and would be solved with everyone’s cooperation, he added.
Also present there, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq said: “I will try to keep my pledges with honesty and introduce facilities for city dwellers to make their lives comfortable.”
Business leaders present at the programme urged the Dhaka mayors to develop the city’s infrastructure to ensure smooth business operations and healthier and friendly living opportunities.
They also requested the mayors to reduce tax rates for businesses, in order to allow them to grow rapidly.
“The cost of doing business went up manifold, and if you [mayors] make the Dhaka city free from traffic congestion, it will bring down the cost,” said BGMEA President Atiqul Islam.
BTMA President Tapan Chowdhury said: “Bring some changes, not only for the business community but also for those of all walks of life.”
“Set the target and take steps; the businesspeople will extend their helping hand to make the city liveable,” said Abdus Salam Murshedy, president of Exporters Association of Bangladesh.
BKMEA President Nasim Osman, International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs President Rokeya Afzal, and BGMEA Vice-Presidents Shahidullah Azim and Reaz-Bin-Mahmood also attended the programme.
