Khaleda: Return Salahuddin to family

Update : 10 May 2015, 01:31 PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has renewed her call to bring the party's Joint General Secretary Salahuddin Ahmed back to his family members.

In a press statement on Sunday, she expressed deep anxiety over the still-unsolved disappearance of the leader.

She also questioned whether rule of law has been uprooted from the country as none was ready to shoulder any responsibility for the incident.

Noting that none has been made accountable for the disappearance, Khaleda said: “If a state and the authorities remain silent over the disappearance of an important leader like Salahuddin Ahmed, then what about the security of the common citizen?”

The press release signed by party spokesperson Asaduzzzaman Ripon demanded the immediate return of Salahuddin Ahmed.

It also called upon the authorities concerned to ensure security, safety and rights to get justice for all citizens.

BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed went missing two moths ago. Although his family members alleged that members of law enforcement agencies picked him up from a house in the capital's Uttara area, the law enforcers denied the allegation.

Khaleda alleged that many BNP leaders including Ilyas Ali, Chowdhury Alam, Saiful Islam Hiru and some other senior leaders were picked up by law enforcers and since then they remained traceless.

“Relatives of those leaders and activists have been spending their days in deep concern. They [relatives] do not know whether their loved ones became victims of extrajudicial killing ... the relatives have yet to know their loved ones' current status.”
