Turmoil again at SBMC as BCL factions face off

Update : 06 May 2015, 07:07 PM

A tense situation has again appeared at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMC) as two rival groups of Chhatra League showed their presence with different activities in last two days.

Followers of one group, led by Imran Hossain and Anup Das, demonstrated on the campus yesterday morning demanding immediate action against their rivals Monjurul Islam Rafi and Mostafizur Rahman Tuhin.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, Rafi and Tuhin accompanied by some BCL activists from outside entered the campus and took position in front of the dormitories as a show of threat to their rivals.

Soon after the incident, the Imran-Anup group locked the hostel and hospital gates, including the emergency department, at around 9pm.

The moves of both groups created panic among the students, doctors and patients.

Shariful Islam Suvo, spokesman of the group, alleged the SBMC unit BCL Joint Conveners Rafi and Tuhin along with more than 50 outsiders led by BM College unit BCL leader Kazi Milon entered the campus with lethal and sharp weapons.

They threatened the students who submitted a memorandum to the principal demanding the expulsion of Rabbi and Tuhin on charges of extortion, drug trading and other illegal activities.
