Joy urges media to serve impartial news

Update : 06 May 2015, 07:14 PM

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, speaking at a seminar yesterday, urged the media to remain impartial in delivering news, regardless of whether the matter favours the government or not; he alleged that a fraction of journalists practice yellow journalism and denigrate the achievements of the government.

Referring to a news from a Bangla national daily that listed 40 complaints regarding alleged rigging in the April 28 city polls, the prime minister’s ICT affairs adviser said that certain media organisations are bringing government and the election commission into disrepute.

Contradicting the report, he stated the city polls were free and fair as the complaints come from 1.5% of polling centres. The percentage might reduce if the EC investigated the votes properly, he claimed.

“The complaints came from 40 polling centres out of a total of total of 2,701. These are silly complaints,” he said.

The news is actually good for the Election Commission and the government as it proves that vote rigging has not taken place during the city polls, he added.
