National Press Club permanent member and Kaler Kantho Assistant Editor Ali Habib has passed away. He was 61.
He fell ill while at work and was admitted to the emergency department of Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday.
As his condition worsened, doctors placed him on life support, but he passed away at 7:45pm.
He is survived by his wife, son, mother, brother, and two sisters.
Ali Habib will be laid to rest at his family graveyard in Harinakunda upazila in Jhenaidah, next to his grandfather’s grave, after Zuhr prayers on Wednesday.
Born on March 23, 1964, in Harinakunda, Ali Habib began his journalism career in 1993 as an editorial assistant at the Daily Janakantha. He later served as assistant editor and chief coordinator of the feature department in 2001. In 2009, he joined Kaler Kantho, writing for its sub-editorial department.
Apart from journalism, Ali Habib was a renowned poet and fiction writer, known for his sharp wit and satire.
National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan have expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
In a statement, they prayed for his eternal peace and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
