Preparations have been made to provide BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia with further treatment at the Kingston residence of her son Tarique Rahman in London, according to BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
Zahid shared these details while speaking to reporters in front of The London Clinic at around 10:30pm local time on Thursday. Other doctors and UK BNP leaders were also present at the briefing.
Khaleda Zia might go there on Friday night, he said, adding that even after returning, her treatment would continue under the supervision of Dr Patrick Kennedy and Dr Jennifer Cross.
Dr Zahid, who is also Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, elaborated that preparations had been made to ensure she could receive treatment at home, with all facilities in place for doctors and nurses.
Seeking prayers for Khaleda Zia’s recovery, he added: “If her improvement continues at this rate, she will return to the country soon.”
A decision had yet to be made regarding a liver transplant, he said, adding that medication-based treatment would continue for now.
A source familiar with the matter told this correspondent that considering Khaleda Zia’s age and physical condition, the possibility of a liver transplant was currently low.
