Language Movement veteran Lokman Hakim passes away

He had received the Bhashani National Award for his contributions to the 1952 movement

Lokman Hakim, a veteran of the 1952 Language Movement in Khulna, has passed away.

The 81-year-old was suffering from multiple old age complications.

Lokman, who was also a transport worker leader, breathed his last at his home in Khalishpur around 4am on Wednesday.

He has left behind his wife, two sons, four daughters, and a host of well-wishers.

His namaz-e-janaza was held in front of the Khalishpur Goalpara Power Station Jame Masjid after the Zuhr prayers. 

Afterwards, he was buried at the Goalkhali Graveyard.

The Language Movement veteran was born in 1940 in Damodar village under Fultala upazila of Khulna. 

He received the Bhashani National Award for his special contributions to the 1952 movement.

Lokman was arrested, imprisoned, and tortured multiple times during his time as an activist.
