Several thousand people including city corporation officials and cultural personalities took part in the funeral prayers held on Barisal BM School ground around 2pm.
His coffin was brought to Barisal Press Club in the morning. The two jouralists’ organisations announced a three-day mourning programme.
Moniruzzaman died from cardiac arrest at Bhanga Hospital in Faridpur on Friday at the age of 58. He embarked on his journalism career with the Daily Lokobani in 1982. Later he worked with many Bangla newspapers and served as the editor of the Daily Barisaler Kantha.
