90L lost from parliament

About Tk90 lakh in office and personal belongings of the Parliament Secretariat have reportedly gone missing.

This information was revealed during a general situation briefing at the National Parliament on September 4.

According to a press release from the Parliament Secretariat issued on Sunday, the meeting was chaired by Zebunnesa Karim, acting secretary of the Parliament Secretariat.

During the meeting, department heads from various sections of the parliament provided updates on the condition of their respective departments and emphasized the need for urgent repairs.

It was also decided that a comprehensive list of lost and damaged items from various offices, subdivisions, and branches of the parliament would be compiled and submitted to the heads of the respective departments.

Three committees were formed to enhance security at the Parliament House, MPs’ residential areas in Manik Mia and Nakhalpara, the Old MP Hostel, Minister Hostel, Secretary Hostel, and the Parliament Bhaban residential area.

These committees have been tasked with inspecting damaged and missing items and submitting a report for further action.

The meeting also prioritized the urgent repair of damaged computers, printers, scanners, internet connections, telephone exchanges, and other equipment at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Various department heads and relevant officers were present at the meeting.

On August 5, amid political unrest, a scattered crowd entered the parliament building. During this time, money from several rooms in the Parliament building, along with computers and other valuable items, reportedly went missing.
