Parliament passes 17,524C supplementary budget for 2021-22 fiscal year

The Finance Division got the highest allocation of Tk 5307.56 crore

Parliament on Monday passed the supplementary budget of Tk17,524 crore for the fiscal 2021-22 to meet the increased expenditures under different ministries and divisions.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 9 along with the national budget.

In 2021-22 fiscal the total budget was Tk 603,681 crore in favour of 62 ministries and divisions. In the supplementary budget the expenditure in 27 ministries and divisions was increased by Tk17,524.64 crore while expenditures in 35 ministries and divisions were reduced by Tk22,614.18 crore.

As a result, the budget allocations for these ministries and divisions got reduced by Tk10,181 crore and the total allocation now stands at Tk593,500 crore.

On Monday, the Finance Minister moved the Supplementary Budget in the House following general discussion on it.

Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought increased amount under 26 demands for grant. As many as 238 cut-motions were moved by eleven members.

Discussions were held on four cut-motions – on Public Security Division, Health Services Division, Local Government Division and Disaster Management and Relief Ministry.

These cut motions were brought by Jatiya Party MPs Kazi Firoz Rashid, Mujibul Huq, Fakhrul Imam, Rowshan Ara Mannan, Shameem Haider Patwary, Pir Fazlur Rahman, BNP MP Md Harunur Rashid, Rumeen Farhana, Md. Mosharof Hosen and Gonoforum MP Mokabbir Khan and Independent MP Md Rezaul Karim Bablu.

However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.

The Finance Division got the highest allocation of Tk 5307.56 crore while the Environment, Forrest and Climate Change Ministry the lowest Tk1.14 crore.

The Prime Minister’s Office got Tk500.69 crore while Election Commission Secretariat Tk75.66 crore, Financial Institutions Division Tk78.25 crore, Economic Relations Division Tk110.59 crore, Armed Forces Division Tk4 crore, Law and Justice Division Tk7.81 crore, Public Security Division Tk178.16 crore, Primary and Mass Education Ministry Tk1908.71 crore, Heath Services Division Tk250.81 crore, Housing and Public Works Ministry Tk497.62 crore, Information and Broadcast Ministry Tk52.25 crore, Religious Affairs Ministry Tk282.83 crore, Youth and Sports Ministry Tk142.56 crore, Local Government Division Tk391.97 crore, Industries Ministry Tk626.59 crore, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Tk12.42 crore, Textile and Jute Ministry Tk147.08 crore, Agriculture Ministry Tk2742.34 crore, Water Resources Ministry Tk757.69 crore, Food Ministry Tk2334.41 crore, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Tk172.71 crore, Transportation and Highways Division Tk54.56 crore, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Tk353.41 crore Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Tk131.36 crore and Liberation War Affairs Ministry Tk401.31 crore.
