The seventh session of the 11th parliament was held yesterday in order to fulfill constitutional requirements amid a worsening coronavirus outbreak.
The second session of the calendar year was the shortest one in the country’s history.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out the prorogation order of the President at around 6:25pm. The session began at 5pm.
The second session of this year lasted an hour and 26 minutes.
At the beginning of the session, the speaker spoke on the situation prevailing in the country and the world in light of the coronavirus pandemic. She also expressed condolences for the deceased.
She briefly described the necessity of holding the session in the existing situation and noted that parliament had been summoned through following all health guidelines.
Earlier on April 6, President Md Abdul Hamid called the seventh session of parliament.
MPs, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who were present during the session were seen wearing various types of masks and gloves. Some were seen wearing surgical caps.
