State minister: 7,000 head teachers’ posts vacant in govt pry schools

18,147 qualified candidates recommended for appointment will soon join their jobs, he said

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain has told the parliament that more than 7,000 posts of head teachers remain vacant in government primary schools across Bangladesh.

The minister said total 7,018 posts of head teachers are lying vacant in government primary schools across Bangladesh, according to the data as of December 2019.

He said this while replying to a written question from Awami League MP Mamunur Rashid Kiron (Noakhali-3) on Tuesday, reports BSS.

The state minister said the total number of vacant posts of assistant teachers is 21,814 in government primary schools but 18,147 qualified candidates have already been recommended for appointment against the same number of vacant posts in 61 districts (except three CHT districts) in December last. The recommended candidates will soon join their jobs, he said.

Besides, the permanent recruitment of teachers is made under the supervision of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Zila Parishads in the three hill districts -- Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban, he added.

Replying to a starred question from Bikalpadhara MP Abdul Mannan, the junior minister said the dropout rate in primary education came down to 18.6% from 39.8% in 2010.

“The present Awami League government has achieved marked success in preventing the dropout from primary education. The dropout rate declined to 18.6% from 39.8% in 2010,” Zakir Hossain told the House.
