Power cut disrupts Parliament session

The day's business began at 5:10pm with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair

Update : 12 Sep 2018, 01:52 AM

Power disruption forced Tuesday's Parliament session to be adjourned within an hour of its beginning.

The day's business began at 5:10pm with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

However, the session was adjourned after running the House for an hour with power support from a generator, reports UNB.

Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, who was in the chair at that time, suspended the remaining proceedings of the day at 6:15pm.

He told the media that the day's business was adjourned due to power disruption.

Miah said Meghnaghat Power Plant supplies electricity to the Parliament Bhaban. The power supply was disrupted because of technical problems in the power plant.

"We have adjourned the day's business after running the session with power supply from its generator for an hour," he said.

The parliament session will resume at 5pm on Wednesday.
